The origin of the name "MAVROKORDATOS" derives from the two great Byzantine families, the Mavrous and the Gordatous, which became Mavrogordatos and eventually Mavrokordatos. The family members settled in Chios around the year 1570 where they developed commercial and economic ties with the Genovese. Built in 1736, this traditional mansion is located on a 15 - acre estate. It still maintains its distinguished characteristics such as the pebbled yard, the cistern, the mangano, or large wheel that covers the top of the well, as well as the distinctive main entrance to the estate. It is located 7 Km outside the town of Chios and just 3 Km away from the airport. The mansion offers 9 luxurious rooms and a plethora of services. A cafeteria and restaurant are also available on the groundflor in the yard.
